Air conditioners draw significant startup current when their compressor kicks on, briefly higher than the running current. If your lights barely flicker or dim for just a moment, that is typical and generally not a concern.
Brief dimming that only happens with the AC starting is generally not urgent. Persistent dimming, dimming with multiple appliances, or dimming accompanied by any warning signs warrants a licensed electrician\’s inspection. A load calculation can determine whether your panel is undersized for your actual demand, and panels from manufacturers like Eaton or Square D are common upgrade choices.
