Most fuse box calls we get start with an insurer, not an electrician. Fuse panels, 60 amp services, and knob-and-tube wiring are increasingly refused, surcharged, or made a condition of coverage. We replace the panel, handle the ESA notification, and give you the Certificate of Inspection your insurer will ask for.
When you need fuse box replacement, you want a licensed pro who works to Electrical Safety Authority (ESA) standards. EZ Smart delivers exactly that across Toronto and the GTA.

Local Toronto Service, Fully Insured
If your home still has a fuse box, you are usually dealing with two separate problems at once: an obsolete distribution method, and a service that is almost certainly 60 amps. Both matter, and insurers increasingly care about them.
A correctly sized fuse actually protects a circuit perfectly well. The real problems are practical ones.
Over-fusing. Nothing physically stops someone from screwing a 30-amp fuse into a circuit wired for 15 amps. Decades of previous owners doing exactly that is the single most common hazard we find in these homes. A breaker panel makes that mistake much harder.
Capacity. Fuse box homes are typically on a 60-amp service, which was designed before central air, electric dryers, dishwashers, and home offices.
Adjacent old wiring. Fuse boxes frequently sit in homes with knob-and-tube or early cloth-sheathed wiring, and those need assessing at the same time.
This is what prompts most calls we get. Many Canadian insurers now decline new policies, refuse renewal, or apply a surcharge on homes with a fuse panel, a 60-amp service, or knob-and-tube wiring. Some will bind coverage only on condition that the panel is replaced within a set window.
An ESA Certificate of Inspection after replacement is the document your insurer will ask for. We provide it as part of the job.
Replacing a fuse box is rarely a like-for-like swap, because a 60-amp service is not worth rebuilding at the same capacity. In practice it usually means upgrading to a 100A or 200A breaker panel, with a new mast and meter base, new service entrance conductors, updated grounding and bonding, and every circuit transferred and properly labelled.
Because the service capacity changes, the utility disconnects and reconnects, and ESA inspects. We file the notification and coordinate the utility.
We look at the existing service size, the condition of the mast and meter base, whether knob-and-tube is present and where, the state of the grounding, and how many circuits need transferring. Homes of this vintage often have surprises behind the panel, and we would rather find them before quoting than after.
If your insurer has asked for documentation, tell us — we will make sure the paperwork you need comes out of the job.

Upgrading wire from Aluminum to Copper guarantee the safety of you and your family

An electrical surge can happen for a number of reasons, including lightning strikes.
Urgent issues often handled the same day you call.
Two decades of trusted electrical service in the GTA.
We recommend only what you need and explain your options clearly.
Many insurers now refuse, surcharge, or place conditions on homes with fuse panels, 60-amp services, or knob-and-tube wiring. Some bind coverage only if the panel is replaced within an agreed period. Ask your broker what they require in writing.
A correctly sized fuse protects a circuit properly. The danger is over-fusing, where someone installs a larger fuse than the wiring allows, which is easy to do and common in older homes. Breakers make that far harder.
Technically possible, but almost never sensible. A 60-amp service does not support modern household loads, and you would pay for utility coordination and inspection twice when you inevitably upgrade later.
Not necessarily, but the two often appear together in homes of the same era. We check during the assessment and tell you what is actually there rather than assuming.
An ESA Certificate of Inspection. That is the document insurers and future buyers ask for, and it stays part of your home record.

Outstanding Electrician – Highly Recommend Amir at EZSMART CORPORATION After interviewing eleven electricians, I chose Amir from EZSMART CORPORATION to upgrade my home to 200A service and install an EV charger—and I couldn’t be happier with that decision. From our first conversation, Amir made me feel confident and at ease. He was honest, transparent, and never tried to upsell unnecessary work. Instead, he offered practical advice and even recommended the best EV charger for my vehicle. Once the job began, a few unexpected issues came up—none of which were his fault or included in the original estimate. Still, Amir resolved them without charging extra. That level of integrity is rare. Amir’s professionalism, fairness, and attention to detail truly set him apart. If you need electrical work done, I highly recommend Amir and EZSMART CORPORATION.Posted on Google![]()
