The condition, brand, and age of your electrical panel directly affect how the new EV charger circuit is installed. Some older or legacy panel brands require additional work before a new dedicated circuit can be safely added. Panels with limited available breaker slots may need a sub-panel or tandem breakers. The contractor will assess your panel at the initial site visit and factor this into the quote.
The farther the garage or charging location is from the electrical panel, the more wire and conduit is needed to run the dedicated circuit. A long run — especially in a finished home where wire must be fished through walls or routed through finished ceilings — adds both material cost and labour time. A garage that is directly below or adjacent to the panel is the most straightforward scenario.
