A full rewire of an older home typically requires opening walls at key locations. However, skilled electricians use fish tape, flex drill bits, and low-voltage cut-in boxes to minimize the number of wall openings. Modern rewiring techniques can significantly reduce the amount of drywall work compared to what was needed twenty years ago.

When Drywall Removal Is Typically Required

• Replacing old aluminum or knob-and-tube wiring throughout the house
• Adding new circuits that must run through finished walls to reach the panel
• Installing panels or subpanels in finished areas
• Running circuits through fire-blocked walls or at floor/ceiling transitions
